Laser correction of age-related farsightedness (presbyopia)

PresbyLASIK and Presby FemtoLASIK with PresbyMAX® – ONLY at Eximer Ophthalmology ClinicКЛИНИКЕ «ЭКСИМЕР» (КИЕВ)

Perfect vision without reading glasses!

Laser correction of age-related farsightedness. Several years ago, doctors could only offer glasses or intraocular lens implantation to correct presbyopia (age-related farsightedness after 40).

Today, new technologies are available at Eximer Ophthalmology Clinic to restore visual acuity at close distances – PresbyLASIK and PresbyFemtoLASIK laser correction techniques under the PresbyMAX® program. This is a unique SCHWIND technique for correcting corneal curvature, adopted by the doctors at Eximer Ophthalmology Clinic.

We can help you get rid of your reading glasses and improve your quality of life!

What is presbyopia?

Presbyopia or age-related farsightedness is a decrease in the accommodative capacity of the eye that occurs at the age of 40-50 and is manifested by decreased vision and difficulty in focusing on close objects: letters in a book, labels, phone screen, etc. This is a natural consequence of the age-related decrease in the elasticity of the lens and changes in its curvature.

High-risk population

Everyone develops presbyopia, but the aging and lens thickening processes are individual.

Above all, the initial symptoms of presbyopia are observed in patients with congenital hyperopia. In contrast, patients with myopia may notice the symptoms of presbyopia somewhat later.

Note that mild myopia patients can do without reading glasses for a long time, but with maximal far-sight correction, there is also a decrease in close vision.

How to get rid of presbyopia?

Presbyopia is corrected in the following ways:

  • Eyeglasses;
  • Multifocal contact lenses;
  • Refractive lens exchange;
  • Laser vision correction.

Eximer Ophthalmology Clinic provides all of these methods to address presbyopia.

Patients with presbyopia seek our care so as to be free from glasses and to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle.

After a thorough examination and diagnostic procedures during the consultation, the doctors shall suggest the optimal way to correct age-related farsightedness taking into account all the parameters: lifestyle, eye strain, contraindications, etc.

While glasses and contact lenses are a temporary solution, laser correction of age-related farsightedness and surgical treatment permanently regain good vision.

The latest laser correction methods used by our doctors allow correction even with the thin cornea and high ametropia. High precision and reliability are the ultimate priorities of the Eximer Ophthalmology Clinic.

The surgeon may determine the choice of techniques available to the individual patient based on the exam, but a rough estimate that is suitable for you can be made beforehand.

How to decide on the method of treatment?

Refraction Correction methods
Myopia up to -6.0 diopters and myopic astigmatism up to 4.0 diopters Presby FemtoLASIK, PresbyLASIK
Myopia from -6.0 diopters and above and myopic astigmatism more than 4.0 diopters Lens replacement with trifocal IOL implantation
Hypermetropia up to +4.0 diopters and hyperopic astigmatism up to
4.0 diopters
Presby FemtoLASIK, PresbyLASIK, lens replacement with implantation
trifocal IOL
Hypermetropia of +4.0 and above, and myopic astigmatism more
4.0 diopters, hyperopic and mixed astigmatism over
4.0 diopters
Lens replacement with trifocal IOL implantation, combined
methods.

Three steps towards good vision!

Diagnostics
During diagnostics on modern equipment, we determine the condition of the entire visual system. We examine the condition of the cornea, measure the pupil under different light conditions, determine the nature of vision. These and other factors allow us to accurately choose the method of vision restoration suitable for you and avoid possible side effects or contraindications. Be sure to avoid contact lenses before the examination: 2 weeks for soft lenses, a month for hard lenses.

An obligatory step in getting ready for laser vision correction is modeling the correction effect. The doctor shall choose multifocal contact lenses and the patient shall wear them for several days to get an idea of what his/her vision will be after laser vision correction.

Preparation
Preparation requirements are minimal: no contact lenses and good health. It is also recommended to keep your car as it is difficult to drive after the surgery. The surgery is performed with anesthetic drops, excluding pain during the surgery.

3. Surgery
The doctor performs the PresbyLASIK procedure using the SCHWIND Amaris excimer laser with the PresbyMAX® program. The IntraLase FS60 femtosecond laser is also used for the PresbyLASIK technique. The laser beam slices the cornea in several optical zones, allowing for vision correction. It takes only half a day to restore the eyes. The day after surgery, the patient returns to ordinary life.

Benefits of presbyopia treatment at Eximer Ophthalmology Clinic:

1. First in Ukraine

Eximer Ophthalmology Clinic was the first in Ukraine to apply laser methods of presbyopia correction with multifocal, bi-aspherical refractive profile using the PresbyMax® program.

2. High-precision diagnostics

The complex examination is a crucial phase of treatment. Our center guarantees our patients precise diagnosis, effective further treatment, minimal risk on side effects and complications, perfect predictability of the presbyopia correction.

3. Individual approach

The correction program is determined according to the refractive defects that the patient had before presbyopia. Refractive disorders such as myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism can also be corrected.

4. Best equipment

Best equipment for refractive surgery: SCHWIND Amaris system (Germany) with PresbyMAX® program for PresbyLASIK techniques and IntraLase FS60 femtosecond laser for unique Presby FemtoLASIK.
